The theme of Rotary Club of Wessex Mead 8th President's night was fun, friendship and fundraising. It was a lovely spring evening as 61 guests gathered at the beautiful Cleeve House at Seend, in their posh frocks and black tie. They were greeted with a glass of Pimms or juice, and mingled outside on the terrace or in the great hall before a bugler called us into dinner.

Following the usual formalities a 3 course meal was served, during which the guests were entertained by a 1st Class Table Magician - Dave Jones.  Dave spent quality time at each table, performing impossible tricks with a cheeky line in charm.  He also mingled after the meal, whilst other guests tried their luck at Black Jack or Roulette at the fun casino hosted by Rotary Club of Amesbury from District 1110 - who run the casino to raise funds for their club charity Children’s Chance. The person with the most chips at the end of the evening won a bottle of Champagne.

During the evening, guests were served drinks by members of the Rotary Club of Chippenham, who had also donated their services for the evening.  In return, money from the raffle, wine and bar sales was donated to their charity SNAP – raising money to build and maintain a hydrotherapy pool for the children at St Nicolas School, Chippenham. The evening certainly lived up to the theme; it was a relaxed atmosphere with much laugher and merriment.  The collaboration of 3 Rotary Clubs working together was unusual for a President’s night, but very enjoyable.  The evening raised over £650 for the Rotary charities.

District Governor Tony Quinn thanked President Sarah Hiscocks saying that he had a super evening which was made the more enjoyable by the Casino Night element which enabled us to wander about and chat with friends.
