The Rotary Club of Wessex Mead wishes you a very Happy New Year! Did you happen to see a penguin in the Shires in December, or maybe a Mother Christmas at Tesco’s? Then maybe you saw a member of Wessex Mead Rotary collecting for Charity. In December, we helped the Lions club of Trowbridge with their Santa float house-to-house collecting. It was great to see both the young and old of Trowbridge getting excited to see Santa in their street and even saying hello to him! We recognize what a good job the Lions Club do in Trowbridge and so offered extra hands, from one service club to another, to help out at this busy time of year. We also assisted the Rotary Club of Trowbridge who every year make collections in the Shires Shopping Centre. The money collected here also goes to local good causes. On Wednesday 23rd December, members of the club collected at Tesco in our own right - as the Rotary Club of Wessex Mead! Our thanks go to Trowbridge Lions for lending us their Santa over lunch time, otherwise Mother Christmas was there to hand out sweets to children young and a bit older. Money raised on that day will also go to good local causes. To celebrate this festive season, we took a well earned break from collecting, to enjoy good food and friendship with some ex-members/old friends of the club plus some new ones too. 2010 is nearly upon us and we look forward to a busy year: we will be rising to the Bill Gates challenge, which is to eradicate Polio in the world, by holding a BIG BREAKFAST in Southwick on 21st February; and our popular annual Bavarian Evening will be held on 13th March - book early to avoid disappointment. |
