Wessex Mead Rotary has always enjoyed fun, friendship and fundraising. October was no exception.
We enjoyed an evening with an international flavour at a members home, where we talked about wines from different parts of the world and tried to work out from a sample which was which – it did turn out to be a bit of a lottery the winners confessed, we obviously do not have the nose for these kind of things!
Recently a group of members were lucky enough to visit a French club with the view to Rotary Twinning. The group we given wonderful hospitality by the French Rotary Club, and escorted around the beautiful area during their stay. They shared their experiences with the rest of the club with a slide show presentation. Next year we will be able to show them the delights of Wiltshire when they come to visit us.
I felt very privileged to be invited by Trowbridge Town in Bloom to join them on 16th October for the Ceremonial Tree Planting of 4 of our Living Tribute Trees. We were not only honoring the fallen of this country but also honoring those who continue to serve, in particular using our Living Tribute Trail Trees to represent the Lives and Courage of our Military and Emergency Service people. The event also included me planting a poppy cross in the Sensory Garden, with others, to mark the start of the Poppy Collecting. Members of the club also helped sell poppies in the Shires - working with the British Legion.
In November, we are looking forward to helping Chippenham Rotary Club at their annual Firework event at Monkton Park. Then in December, we will be working with Trowbridge Lions, collecting around Trowbridge with Father Christmas and Trowbridge Rotary collecting in the Shires for local good causes – if you look closely you may even see a Penguin or two!!
