A quiet month this month.......

May has been a quiet month, not least because of the 2 bank holidays that it contains and because Monday is our normal meeting night, we don't meet.

Of course there was the District Assembly in Cheddar which was attended by some of our members.  Lots of ideas being discussed and new people to meet.

However, on Friday 15th May a few of us were guests at the Rotary Club of Trowbridge's Presidents Night.  The evening was at the Leigh Park Hotel near Bradford on Avon.  We were served a delicious 4 course meal and were entertained by a guest speaker, photographer Ron Pybus.  Ron told us some delightful stories about his experiences of photographing, both people and animals.  I especially liked the story about the Irish setter!

On Monday 18th we had our monthly Business Meal, this month including our AGM.  We were joined by Fran Lewis, from Splitz Support Service to collect the proceeds of the Pub Quiz in April.

The committee chairs gave their reports on a very full years activities.  Carnival Quiz, Bavarian Night, Pub Quiz, collecting in the Shires at Christmas and Poppy time (some members even dressed up for his one.  Definitely service above self!

We've presented 3 schools in Trowbridge with Usborne dictionaries and will be doing the same again this year with 3 different schools.  Our first presentation is due to take place on 1st June at the Grove primary school.

We successfully collect the schools vouchers from Sainsbury's and Tesco's whcih were donated to Stepping Stones and Three Ways School in Bath.  We're busy collecting again this year, so if you have any to spare, please get in touch and we will find them a good home.  Thank you to everyone who has donated their vouchers to us.

We have some busy times coming up, not least with the Rotary Roadshow at the West Wilts Show in the park in Trowbridge in July.  Come along and find us - I think we're near the footbridge to Tesco.  We'd love to see you!

Well for me there are only a few weeks of my Presidential Year left.  Being a President for the first time is like climbing a steep slope, lots of effort to get halfway, then the descent to the finish and base camp is really fast, and you wish you could go back to the top again.

Take care, will sign on for the last time as President, in June.
