Wessex Mead Rotary sponsors the Young Persons Award at the Annual Trowbridge in Bloom presentation evening.  The event is now so popular that both President David & President Elect Caroline were asked to present at seperate evenings on Thursday 22nd & Tuesday 27th September.

“The Friends of Trowbridge in Bloom Committee present this award to a young person or group of young people who they feel have ‘gone the extra mile’ and by their actions have contributed significantly to the ‘IN BLOOM’ Campaign in 2011

On Thursday 22nd September, President David was invited to present the Young Persons award certificates at the Trowbridge in Bloom awards ceremony at St. Augustine’s Catholic College.  The evening was introduced by Jennifer Polledri, chairman of the Friends of Trowbridge in Bloom and then the master of ceremonies, Trowbridge town crier, Trevor Heeks announced the winners.

David presented the 1st prize to The Mead Community Primary School Gardening club: The children in gardening club at both sites (Hilperton & Wingfield) have worked on the gardens every week of the year from September through to July.  They get involved in all aspects of the garden from weeding, watering, sowing seeds and propagating new plants, and helping to design and construct new areas. They work hard to help look after the garden whatever the weather, and take pride in the garden they create, helping to educate other children about how to respect and look after the garden.

During the evening there was some entertainment in the form of 2 students from St. Augustine’s College who played the violin and piano, followed later by Pauline Tiller,  who recited poems writen by Wiltshire poet Gwen Ellis, in the style of a Wiltshire Pam Ayres!
