KidsOut

Wessex Mead Rotary took all the children from Larkrise school, Trowbridge for a Fun Day out!

This is the second year that Wessex Mead Rotary have facilitated for 60 of the children from Larkrise school to be part of KidsOut. We had great fun, dodging the showers and seeing all the animals.  Mary Seaman from Larkrise told us that this is a special day for the whole school, it is within easy distance to travel, and the facilities are ideal for all the children to enjoy.

A Fun Day out for children with special needs

Around 1,000 children with special needs will be treated to an extraordinary day out at Longleat on Wednesday 8th June, thanks to the annual Rotary KidsOut Day event KidsOut targets young people aged between 5 and 12, who either attend special schools or are in special units at mainstream schools. The scheme started locally in 1992, and at least 500 children have taken part every year since 1999 - with over 1,000 benefiting last year. Some 30 Rotary Clubs from Somerset, Dorset, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire join forces to provide a wonderful day out for the children, who are nominated for the treat by their schools or other organisations involved in their care.

This year our total numbers are about 1,000 kids

The children are collected from their schools and transported to Longleat by cars or minibuses or coaches. The day starts with a trip through the Safari Park, includes a picnic lunch, and finishes with the group enjoying the various amusements within the grounds.

Peter Bennett, chairman of the local organising committee, said: "We are once again grateful to Longleat Adventure and Safari Park, our sponsors and supporters for helping to make this a special day for so many children. We are sponsored this year by Frome Agricultural Society Cheese Prize-winners; AugustaWestland; Intel and the Kidsout Charity Rotary Clubs provide substantial financial and hands-on support. Our special thanks go to the management and staff at Longleat, who make us so welcome every year."
