The Big Breakfast at North Bradley Peace Memorial Hall was a great success, with over 100 breakfasts served. Our thanks go to the Fair Trade team (Peter Barnett and John Knight) from Trowbridge who provided all the hot drinks for us. We raised nearly £500 which will go towards erradicating Polio in the world. As the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation sponsor this project, the true amount towards this worthy cause is over £850. Our thanks also go to all our guests who supported the event. District Governor Stan Jones and Ruth came along as a paying guest to support us, and they ended up in the kitchen finishing our washing up while all the helpers enjoyed our breakfasts ...... at lunch time! Efforts to distribute worldwide a vaccine have reduced polio by 99 percent, but young people are still being infected. Bill Gates (of Microsoft fame) has given a pledge to Rotary that for every £1 raised in support of immunisation against polio, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation will give another £1.78 making every £1 donation worth £2.78. To immunise one child costs just 50p so each £1 donation will save more than five lives.
