The world wide project ‘Thanks for Life – Polio Eradication’ dominated February for Wessex Mead Rotarians.  But we did find time to have some fun this month by means of a pub of the quarter and a ‘ghost walk’ around Frome town centre lead ably by Rotarian Ann Jones.  It was a very cold evening and the stories sent shivers down our spines, so we were glad to end up with a hot drink at the end of the evening in a local hotel.

Ann had also arranged with Trowbridge Library to display the photographs taken by entrants to our Young Photographer competition – this display lasted a fortnight in the main library.

Caroline Smyth, who did a wonderous job organising the Big Breakfast event,  is also coordinating the Bavarian night which is coming up on 13th March, there are a few tickets left.

Ann Jones is coordinating a Fun Quiz night which will include a fish and chip supper on 26th April.

Wessex mead only currently has 14 members, and is looking for help to organize local and environmental projects. Please email us via the online form if you can help.

After spending much of December collecting for charity, the New Year has brought more business into the lives of Wessex Mead Rotarians.  We have four events to organize in the next four months, so it is all hands required to make those final preparations.  The ‘Big Breakfast ‘ in February is a first for us, and will be raising money for ‘Thanks for Life – Polio Eradication, where as the Bavarian night in March is an old favorite, we are now in our 8th year and it is always a sellout event. This year’s money will go to Alzheimer's Support South West and Wessex Mead's Indonesian Mobile Health Clinic Project.  In April we will be running our popular Quiz night and May brings a Casino night.

Despite all the planning we are doing, we found time to collect in the Castle Place Shopping centre, to raise money for the Rotary Charities Shelter Box and Water Survival Box, these both provide emergency shelter, tools and water purification for disaster areas like Haiti.  We would like to thank Trowbridge Rotary Club for helping us on the day, and sourcing sample Shelter and Water Survival boxes; they certainly were a talking point and enabled us to show where people’s money goes.  We raised enough to purchase a Shelter Box and two Water Survival boxes.

The Rotary Club of Wessex Mead wishes you a very Happy New Year!

Did you happen to see a penguin in the Shires in December, or maybe a Mother Christmas at Tesco’s? Then maybe you saw a member of Wessex Mead Rotary collecting for Charity.

Wessex Mead Rotary has always enjoyed fun, friendship and fundraising.  October was no exception.

We enjoyed an evening with an international flavour at a members home, where we talked about wines from different parts of the world and tried to work out from a sample which was which – it did turn out to be a bit of a lottery the winners confessed, we obviously do not have the nose for these kind of things!
