Wessex Mead (Trowbridge) Rotary Club was chartered in 2002. We have a varied membership made up of men and women from the local business and professional community. With an average age of 45 years, Wessex Mead has a much younger make-up than most other Rotary clubs. This youthful composition is reflected in the events and activities we engage in.
(The photo shows some of the Club members and their families at Hope Nature Centre in Trowbridge where we planted Crocus's as part of the Polio Plus Campaign - see the events pages for more information) The Rotary Club of Wessex Mead currently meet at Bruschetta Italian Ristorante. This is the former Red or White restaurant in Castle Street, Trowbridge. We meet on Monday evenings at 7.30, but we are a very active club, so please check our Calendar or contact our club secretary to find out where we are. Joining a Rotary club is an excellent way to develop new friendships as well as get involved in worthwhile service projects both in the local community and further afield. If you would like to learn more about Rotary membership please get in touch with us. |

This St Georges day was the date of the popular annual Wessex Mead Rotary Fish and Chip Supper Quiz night. It took place at the Trowbridge Polish Club and we thank them again for their support of our quizzes. 19 teams participated in 8 rounds of 'interesting' questions, and enjoyed the delicious fish and chip supper supplied from Robinson's Fish and Chip Shop.
The evening raised funds for the Bobby Van Trust who provide courtesy home security service for older, vulnerable and disadvantaged people in Swindon and Wiltshire.

On Saturday 31st March the Rotary Club of Wessex Mead assisted Marie Curie Cancer Care with its annual daffodil appeal. The daffodil appeal gives everyone across the UK the opportunity to wear a daffodil in support of Marie Curie nurses. This year they hope to raise over £5.7million to continue to provide care to terminally ill people.
Never shy of an excuse to dress up we willingly donned yellow hats and tabards. In fact our President, David looked like a 6ft daffodil! The success of the appeal depends upon volunteers giving up their time to organise collections in their local community, and Wessex Mead was only too pleased to be able to help this worthy cause.
Thanks to the generosity of customers of the Tesco Extra store in Trowbridge, we were able to collect £346.23 to help support the appeal. This sum was further boosted by a share of the proceeds of a raffle held at our 10th anniversary charter dinner making a grand total of £421.23. Wessex Mead would like to thank everyone who gave so generously.

Wessex Mead Rotary celebrated our 10th Birthday with a James Bond Casino Royal themed dinner and fun casino at the Standerwick Centre at Frome Market. Past and present members, friends and families gathered to reminisce over the last 10 years of activites and events - fun, friendship and fundraising in the community and overseas.
10 years of Wessex Mead means 10 presidents, sadly president Debbie was unable to attend as she is now living with her family in Germany, but the other 9 attended.

Thanks to everyone who supported the Big Breakfast, we served 124 breakfasts and made over £500 During the first half of the 20th century, polio crippled over a half a million people each year. Efforts to distribute worldwide a vaccine have reduced polio by 99 percent, but young people are still being infected. Bill Gates (of Microsoft fame) has given a pledge to Rotary that for every £1 raised in support of immunisation against polio, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation will give another £1.78 making every £1 donation worth £2.78. To immunise one child costs just 50p so each £1 donation will save more than five live. |

April started with the long Easter Bank Holiday weekend, which was the weekend we have started to use for twinning exchanges with our friendship twin club of Rodez Espallion in Southern France.
Four members of Wessex Mead (along with their partners) paid a social visit to our friends in France, further forging the friendships that have been made between our clubs. Whilst there they were taken to local historic villages and the Roquefort cheese caves, places which they would have been unlikely or unable to visit without our French Hosts. We look forward to welcoming back to Wiltshire members of Rodez Espallion during Easter 2013.
The third Monday of April was the night we held our annual fundraising Pub Quiz, to raise funds for the Wiltshire Bobby Van Appeal. The Wiltshire Bobby Van provides a courtesy home security service for older, vulnerable and disadvantaged people in Swindon and Wiltshire.
The quiz was fiendishly difficult (or so we thought on our table) and was won by our friends from Westbury Rotary. Thanks must go to the Polish Club for letting us use their facilities for this evening (and for the fine polish beer that they sell) and thanks to Robinson’s fish shop for supplying the fish and chip supper that was enjoyed by everyone that attended.
On the social side we have enjoyed a sociable evening at the New Inn Freshford, where we sampled their menu over a glass or two of the house finest.
