A YOUNG chef from Trowbridge won a cooking competition organised by the Rotary Club of Wessex Mead.
George Smith, 14, beat off stiff competition to take the local title of Young Chef with his take on a healthy Sunday lunch.
The young competitors were taking part in the local heats of national competition run by the Rotary Club.
After two hours of cooking John of Gaunt School pupil George triumphed with his tower of roasted lamb, potato rosti, carrots and French beans served on a minted pea puree.
He followed it with rhubarb and custard layered crumble with added raspberry and ginger for dessert.
George will now be invited to take part in the district finals, regional finals and possibly even the national final.
Walter Rose Family Butchers from Devizes provided all the meat, including George's lamb, and sponsored the event.
Organiser Sarah Hiscocks was lucky enough to be able to sample the finished creations along with the two judges from Wiltshire College Trowbridge, where the competition was held on Tuesday night.
She said: "All the dishes were very tasty but George's stood out.. They were judged on presentation, cleanliness and kitchen habits as well as the quality of the food."
As an added bonus Marco Polledri, the owner of Red or White in Castle Street, Trowbridge, has offered to have George join his own chef and cook the winning meal for paying customers in his restaurant.
Ms Hiscocks said: "Marco is really keen to have his chef work with George to give him the experience. He's going to donate any profits to a charity of George's choice."
